I have been here for almost 4 weeks now and I haven’t been outside the Kuta, Seminyak and Kerobokan area yet so I decided to get on my bike for a Bali road trip. My target for the day was to get to a volcano called Mt Batur and drive through Ubud on the way there. The street signs are not the easiest to follow so i am happy that i had my iPad, which i used the GPS on to know where i was. Below is pretty much how i drove (i am not exactly which way i drove in Denpasar).
I left about half past 7 in the morning i got back about 3 in the afternoon and i was on the bike all that time except for maybe 2 hours. The streets aren’t the best here and traffic is really bad in some places so i actually only covered 150 kilometers during that time.
Rice terraces in Tegalalang
About 10 kilometers north of Ubud i found the rice terraces of Tegalalang. I was on my way to Mt Batur and was amazed by finding this stunning place on the way. This reminded me a lot of the rice terraces i saw in Colca Canyon in Peru.
Driving about another 20 kilometers i thought it was time to stop and make sure i was on the right way. I happened to stop by a coffee plantation and ended up in a coffee tasting. A few different coffees and teas were on the menu and even though it was quite expensive i bought a package each of Ginseng coffee and a package of Vanilla coffee. When i don’t have coffee available like i did in the office, i don’t drink that much anymore. Now i have this lovely instant coffee when i do feel like it though.
After driving another half an hour or so I started to approach the volcano of Mt Batur. I forgot to withdraw money in Ubud so I didn’t have enough to pay the 300000 rupiah it cost to rent a guide. I think it was for the best because bad weather was coming in and I doubt the view up there would be good anyway.
After this I drove back home. I choose the main road back because I didn’t have that much petrol and I didn’t know how far the it would be until I found a petrol station. You find bottled petrol everywhere so I regret this. The main road was longer and it took ages to get through the traffic of Denpasar. It was murdering hot as well.
All together it was an awesome day and it was nice to something else for a change. I will definitely do more of these road trips!
