Playing football in Bangkok can be one of the funniest things i do here. We play on Wednesdays and on Sundays (Saturday activities has interfered with the Sunday game though…). We play in a place called Arena 10, which is on Thong Lo Soi 10. My friend here in Bangkok found this group on Facebook in which they set up the games. It is a mix of people from England, France, German, Denmark, Austria and some other countries.
We play 7-a-side and there are usually enough people to have one substitute. It is played on an artificial pitch outside but with roof. The game is one and a half hour on Wednesdays and two hours on Sundays and cost roughly 200 bath (5€) per person. I haven’t played football since i played a league indoors in Uni so i am not really comfortable with the ball and struggle to keep up with the pace. The thing that it is still 30 degrees Celsius when we play doesn’t help either. But i must say it gets better each time i am there.
The people i play with are really nice and the atmosphere on the pitch is fun. Everybody are in about the same skill level, which always makes interesting games.
This picture is after last Wednesdays game and i it was a long time since i was that tired. I had almost forgotten how fun it was to play football, i will definitely look for amateur games wherever i go from now!
I played football again yesterday and everything went on brilliant. I feel i’m getting familiar with the ball again which gives you so much more time and makes it more fun. I also felt that i am getting in better shape and i can keep up with the pace.
That was until a slide tackle hit me just after i shoot a goal. This made me loose my footing and landed wrong, it feels like i sprained my ankle. The pain i felt there i can’t remember having felt since i don’t know when.
Now i am trying to sort out a couple of crutches so i can go on a tour i booked for tomorrow. The triathlon on Sunday feels impossible unfortunately.
